Mykola Tomenko: Ministry of Environmental Policy shall prevent Damage to Shatsk National Reserve
As reported by Ukrainian mass media, automobile race "Ukraine Trophy 2011" is to be held on July 2-8, its route running through Polissia and Rivne reserves, and the territory of one of seven wonders of Ukraine Shatsk National Park.
M. Tomenko reminded that a state reserve or a national park is the territory protected by the Law. Polissia and Rivne reserves are the territories of absolute nature protection, thus they shall be closed for the visitors. Moreover, he stressed that all civilized countries have a 'silent month' in the breeding season of May-June, when people are prohibited to visit the forests.
As the initiator of "Seven Wonders of Ukraine" campaign, M. Tomenko reminded that Shatsk reserve and Svitiaz Lake were recognized among seven natural wonders of Ukraine, thus they require special attention and care.
The Deputy Chairman of the Parliament addressed the Ministry of Environmental Policy with a request to verify the legal grounds for holding the "Ukraine Trophy 2011" race to prevent the environmental damage.
